December 2016

December was a strange month. I returned to my previous job that I vowed to never go back to. We didn't have any Christmas decorations set up due to the fact that we were moving so it kind of felt like we skipped Christmas. There were a couple snow days throughout the month, one of them being bad enough for me to get stuck in Vancouver over night. Though, I did get to do some fun things with new and old friends. Let me recap the month for you.

My friend, Jessika, and I planned a trip to Amboy, WA so that we could play in the snow, take some pictures, and do some sight seeing. She had one of her friends, Mason, drive us out there in his car because neither of us were comfortable driving in the snow... It was such a cool location! There wasn't any snow back home and we were dying to find some. And find some we did. No words can appropriately describe how beautiful it was out there. Nature is crazy and just goes to show how talented of an artist God is.

These guys were a lot of fun to hang around with and I truly enjoyed my day. It was so beautiful and definitely a photographer's dream shooting location. Everywhere you turned was beyond picture worthy. I've been to this place before during summertime, so it was cool to be able to see what it looked like covered in snow.

Speaking of snow... We had a couple snow days during December. I was at work one evening when it decided to snow. So, I called up my friend Emily, who lived about 10-15 minutes away from there, to see if I could crash for the evening because the roads on the way to my house were even worse. I almost made it to her house when I came upon an icy hill. Unsurprisingly, my tires spun and my car got stuck right at the bottom of the hill. I was going to have to walk the rest of the way to her house, which was about a mile away. I called Emily and she got her shoes on to walk and meet me halfway. Right as I was texting my mom to let her know what was going on and as I was waiting for Emily at the halfway point, my phone died. All I could do was pray that she would be able to find me before I was forced to ask a stranger in one of the nearby houses if they could let me charge my phone. You may be thinking, "Val, didn't you know how to get to your friend's house from there? " No. No, I did not. I know... Sad.

But luckily, she found me! We walked back to her house. In the morning, her dad went and got my car off of the hill I abandoned it at. Thanks to their family, I was housed for the evening and was able to safely wait out the "snow storm" that stranded me in Vancouver.

Also in December, Jessika, my friend I went to Amboy with, asked if I could draw her a picture of a bull skull to give to her tattoo artist as inspiration for her next piece. This was my big art project for the month and I was pretty proud with how it turned out.

I've always loved to draw and am honored that Jessika will have my drawing incorporated with something that will be on her body for the rest of her life! I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

And that's it for December. Until next time!
