Capturing the Romance of a Moment

A day does not go by that I am not taking photos, whether it's with my dslr camera or my iPhone. I love being able to capture a moment in time, freezing it for eternity. My personal artist statement is: capturing the romance of a moment. My goal, when taking a photo, is to encapsulate the emotion that is evoked by the environment and what's occurring at that time.

This photo, in particular, was taken in my house as the light was coming through the window just perfectly that it created these incredible shadows. I've always been a sucker for these kinds of lighting effects. It's so peaceful and relaxing. As I was coming down the stairs, I saw this scene and immediately ran back upstairs to grab my phone. I couldn't let this moment pass without capturing it. I'm so glad that I did! It's turned out to be one of my favorite photographs.

Never be afraid to take a picture! Even if you're not sure that it will turn out to be a quality photo, grab your camera. Capture the image. Sometimes the best photos are the unplanned ones you did not expect. I have pushed myself, especially this last year, to try harder. By try, I mean that if I see something I think would make for a cool photo, I am to grab my camera and at least try to see if I can capture it. If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. At least I tried. That's just a little piece of advice from me to you, which I hope gives you comfort when it comes to growing as a photographer.
